This post is for those who have less than ideal relationships with their mother.

Mother’s day is a challenging day for some of us. And if that’s you, I’d like to take the time to remind you to be kind to yourself.

Also, I’d like to gently remind you to be realistic about the responsibilities and expectations you have to your mother.

Here are 5 things that are NOT your job:

1.It is not your job to manage the actions of your mother.

2.It is not your job to fix the mistakes of your mother.

3.It is not your job to psycho-analyze your mother.

4.It is not your job to meet the expectations of your mother.

5.It is not your job to remain loyal to the toxic patterns of your mother.

In the words of Erykah Badu “I guess nobody ever told you/All you must hold onto, is you, is you, is you”.

The most loving thing you can do for your mother is to take the utmost care of yourself. Even if they were not capable of doing that when you were a child.

That alone is your job.

I’ll see you all on the twitterverse!

xoxo,

LaBlaq
